Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) president, Ibrahim Gusau has downplayed the purported suspension placed on him to be a result of internal rancor which is null and void.
Following the crisis rocking the federation over the missing $130,000 grant from the International Association of Athletics Associations, IAAF, some board members of the AFN led by the vice-president, Hon. Olamide George had recently announced the suspension of Gusau.
The group accused the president of misappropriating the $130,000 erroneously paid into the account of the federation by the IAAF sometime in 2017 and declared him suspended pending the conclusion of the investigation.
However, in a chat with brila.net, Gusau said the whole thing is internal, probably with his appointment of a technical director for the Federation, which he felt the others vying for the post were aggrieved and are now causing the rancor in the Federation.
Consequently, the board members comprising of Amaze Marcus, Sunday Adeleye, Maria Wophill, Ibrahim Shehu Gusau (president) Patrick Onyedum, Solomon Ogba, and Prof. Emmanuel Ojeme passed a vote of confidence on the president and resolved “to reject any plan to cause division in the AFN”.
