Super Eagles captain, Wilfred Ndidi has praised Nigeria’s group-stage performance at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco and described the squad as united, motivated, and fully prepared for the challenges ahead.
Speaking after Nigeria’s emphatic 3–1 victory over Uganda in their final Group C match, Ndidi expressed pride in the team’s collective effort, stressing that every player—whether starting or on the bench—has embraced the responsibility of representing the nation.
“Very, very proud. And Nigerians should be proud because the group is really, really amazing.”
“It’s not just the guys who are starting, the guys on the bench.”
“Everyone is together on this, so as Nigerians are together in this. The expectation is the next game. It’s just game after game, game after game.”
“It’s not about putting pressure on ourselves. This one is gone. The competition starts now and we’re ready for it.”
Nigeria finished the group stage with a perfect nine points from three matches, underlining their growing confidence and cohesion as the knockout rounds approach.
“Anyone That Comes On Is Going to Deliver” – Ndidi
The Besiktas midfielder highlighted the depth and quality within the Super Eagles squad, insisting that selection decisions do not affect the team’s shared objective.
“So we’re a good group. We’re ready for it. We’re here to represent our country.
There’s no who’s playing or who’s not playing.”“We’re just one group. Anyone that comes on is going to deliver.”
Ndidi’s comments reflect the competitive yet supportive environment within the camp, a factor many observers believe has contributed to Nigeria’s impressive group-stage display.
“It is a Privilege to Represent Nigeria” – Ndidi
Beyond performance on the pitch, Ndidi spoke passionately about what it means to wear the green-and-white jersey, describing national team duty as both an honour and a responsibility to millions of Nigerians.
“It’s a great honor to play for Nigeria. It’s a great honor to represent Nigeria, over 200 million citizens.”
“It is absolutely, for me, I think it’s a privilege to be here because we have so many great players back home.”
He added that representing the country carries deep personal significance.
“And to represent Nigeria is like a great deal, you know. I’m really, really privileged to be here, to be part of this team, this great squad.”
“And I always try my best to give everything for the team also.”
Inspiring the Next Generation
The Super Eagles captain also reflected on his journey, noting how he once looked up to senior players and now hopes to inspire younger talents watching from afar.
“So I would say it’s a great privilege to be here. And every player wants to be in a national team.”
“Even the younger players look up to us, I was once there, looking up to the great players like Mikel Obi and the rest.”
“So my dream also is to be part of it. So being here is really a privilege to be part of it. And I’m really, really honored to be here.”
Focus Shifts to the Knockout Stage
With the group phase now behind them, Ndidi made it clear that the Super Eagles, who will face Mozambique in the Round of 16 of the AFCON 2025 are already looking ahead, adopting a game-by-game approach as the tournament intensifies.
Nigeria’s perfect start has raised expectations, but the captain insists the squad remains grounded, focused, and ready to fight for every result as the real battle for continental glory begins.
