Atalanta manager, Gian Piero Gasperini voiced his dissatisfaction with the possible departure of Ademola Lookman for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Lookman has secured a spot in Nigeria’s final squad for the tournament, set to take place in Cote D’Ivoire.

Gasperini expressed concern over the Winger going away with Nigeria for the AFCON, emphasizing that Atalanta could face challenges in their attack during the player’s anticipated absence.

Should Nigeria progress to the final stages of the tournament, Lookman could be unavailable for at least five to six crucial matches for Atalanta.

Despite acknowledging the impact of his potential departure, Gasperini reassured fans that he has identified a suitable replacement for the Winger.

“It worries me that Lookman is leaving for the AFCON, yes, both for the numbers and the quality of the matches played,” Gasperini was quoted by Tutto Fantacalcio.

“It is clear that we are losing an important element in attack, but we have a certain number of players to be able to make up for it.”​

Ademola Lookman’s significant contributions have played a crucial role in Atalanta’s campaign this season, solidifying his status as a key figure for the team.

The 26-year-old has proven to be a pivotal force for Atalanta, netting six goals and three assists in 17 league appearances.
