Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman delivered a stunning performance off the bench, scoring and providing an assist in their emphatic 5-0 victory over Austrian club Sturm Graz on Tuesday night at the Gewiss Stadium, Bergamo.
Coming off the back of a disappointing defeat to Napoli last weekend, Atalanta were determined to bounce back in style.
Their UEFA Champions League clash against Sturm Graz offered the perfect stage, though Lookman surprisingly started on the bench.
Despite his absence in the first half, Atalanta dominated proceedings, keeping Sturm Graz on the back foot. Early in the second half, Lookman announced his presence with immediate impact. He set up Charles De Ketelaere, who found the back of the net, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
The Nigerian forward eventually got his moment in the 90th minute, expertly heading in a pinpoint cross from De Ketelaere to make it 4-0. But Lookman wasn’t done. In added time, he weaved past defenders before providing an assist for Marco Brescianini to round off the scoring.
With four goals and two assists in just six Champions League appearances this season, the 27-year-old winger continues to be a key player for La Dea.
Atalanta now sits on 14 points from seven games and faces a daunting final group-stage fixture against Spanish giants Barcelona.
