Ademola Lookman delivered a moment of brilliance for Atalanta, but his efforts weren’t enough to prevent a 3-2 home defeat to Napoli in Saturday’s Serie A showdown.

The Nigerian forward scored Atalanta’s second goal, reigniting hope in a high-stakes top-of-the-table clash.

Napoli, however, proved too strong, with goals from Matteo Politano and Scott McTominay overturning Mateo Retegui’s early opener for Atalanta.

Lookman’s equalizer came in stunning fashion. The reigning CAF Player of the Year nutmegged Napoli captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo, weaved through three defenders, and delivered a pinpoint shot through a sea of legs into the bottom corner.

Despite Lookman’s goal, he was substituted in the 77th minute for Nicolò Zaniolo a decision that backfired almost immediately as Romelu Lukaku netted Napoli’s decisive winner just a minute later.

The goal brought Lookman’s Serie A tally to 10 goals and five assists in 18 games this season, leaving him just one goal shy of matching his total from last season.

For Atalanta, the loss extends their winless run to five games, with three draws and two defeats. In contrast, Antonio Conte’s Napoli celebrated their sixth consecutive league victory, further solidifying their dominance.

While Lookman’s individual brilliance continues to shine, Atalanta will need to regroup quickly to reignite their faltering campaign.
