AC Milan’s Champions League campaign got off to a rough start on Tuesday, as they suffered a 3-1 defeat at home to Liverpool.
Nigerian winger, Samuel Chukwueze was benched for the match, having come on with 12 minutes left in that prior game.
The match started well for Milan when Christian Pulisic opened the scoring in the 3rd minute.
However, Liverpool responded quickly with Ibrahima Konate’s equalizer in the 23rd minute.
Virgil van Dijk put the visitors ahead just before halftime, and Dominik Szoboszlai sealed the victory with a third goal in the 67th minute.
The result places Liverpool third in the new 36-team Champions League format, while Milan sit 33rd after the opening round.
Bayern currently tops the UEFA group standings.
Real Madrid, Juventus, Aston Villa, and Sporting Lisbon all recorded victories in their respective matches.
