Rivers United faced another setback as they were defeated 2-0 by Abia Warriors at the Umuahia Township Stadium on Wednesday.

The victory marked a significant turnaround for Abia Warriors, lifting them out of the relegation zone.

Samson Obi broke the deadlock in the 64th minute, rounding goalkeeper Seidu Mutawakilu to score after being set up by Pascal Nwabueze.

Meme Okike then secured the victory with a second goal in stoppage time.

This win was their first in 10 NPFL matches and their first triumph over Rivers United in the league since April 2018.

Abia Warriors, now with 44 points from 32 games, moved up to 10th place in the standings.

Rivers United, meanwhile, remain in 12th position.
