The Nigerian women’s 4x400m relay team triumphed at the Africa Senior Athletics Championship on Wednesday, securing the African title with a stellar performance.

The team, consisting of Ella Onojuvwevwo, Patience Okon-George, Esther Elo Joseph, and Omolara Ogunmakinju, claimed the gold medal by clocking an impressive time of 3:27.31.

In a highly competitive race, Nigeria outpaced teams from Botswana and Zambia, which took silver and bronze respectively.

Despite their victory, the Nigerian team fell short of qualifying for the Paris Olympics, needing to surpass a time of 3:26.08 to edge out Cuba for a spot in the Games.

The women’s 4x100m relay team remains the only Nigerian relay squad not to qualify for the upcoming Olympics.
