Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT, has confirmed the suspension of first choice goalkeeper Andre Onana from the team.
Onana was replaced from the starting eleven, hours before the second Group game against Serbia on Monday, after a reported disagreement with coach Rigobert Song.
The Federation has now confirmed, the 26 year-old is temporarily suspended from the team, reiterating full support for the head coach.
“The Cameroon Football Federation hereby informs the public that following Mr. Rigobert Song Bahanag’s decision, Head Coach of the Indomitable Lions, the player Andre Onana has been temporarily suspended from the group for disciplinary reasons.
“The Cameroon Football Federation reiterates its full support to the Head Coach and his entire staff as they implement the Federation’s policy aimed at preserving discipline, solidarity, complementarity and cohesion within the national team.
“FECAFOOT further reaffirms its commitment to create a peaceful atmosphere for the team and to provide them with adequate facilities for an outstanding performance.” The statement reads.
Onana was in action for the Indomitable Lions in their World Cup opener against Switzerland.
The game ended in a 1-0 defeat, but they managed to pick a point without him in the second game, coming from behind to play a 3-3 draw against Serbia.
They will have to beat Brazil in their final group game to stand a chance of qualifying for the round of 16.
