Nigeria forward Paul Onuachu is back to his best after a slow start to the 2022-2023 Belgian pro league campaign.
The Nigerian forward missed almost six weeks of action after sustaining an injury during the pre-season match against FC Utrecht.
However, since returning to the team, Onuachu has scored twelve goals in the last seven games for Genk who are on the run of nine consecutive league victories.
With his goals, Genk has been able to establish nine points lead over rivals Royal Antwerp and twelve above defending Champions Club Brugge.
Pascal Scimé, a former Belgian football turned journalist, is very impressed with Onuachu and the rest of the team, and speaking at RTBF he thinks the Limburgers look unbeatable at the moment.
“You should also not forget where this team comes from. Bongonda, Dessers, Thorstvedt and Ito have left. Vrancken has transformed this team, and with Onuachu back to his best, they are stronger.
“They did a good job this weekend, but they also had the most favorable calendar,” He said.
And also former professional football player Clément Tainmont cannot stop singing the praises of the Wouter Vrancken’s side.
“I see them competing with Club Brugge. Eleven points ahead of Blauw-Zwart is huge. There will always be lesser periods, but Vrancken usually manages to straighten the team again,
“If they can manage in this dynamic If they continue, they could have a very big lead at the end of the season,” he concluded.
