Opeyemi Ajakaye says the Flamingos are ready to slug it out with tournament favorites, United States of America at the ongoing FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.
Having failed to reach the semi-finals in six previous editions, the Nigerian team set out to achieve the impossible and end the 14-year wait for a last-four berth on their fourth quarterfinal appearance.
On their part, The Americans will hope to reach the semis for the first time since 2008 when they finished as runners-up at the inaugural edition in New Zealand.
The Americans qualified for the quarter finals with seven points from Group A, and they are the most prolific team in the tournament so far with 13 goals.
Speaking ahead of the game, Ajakaye says, impossible is nothing, adding that they aren’t afraid of the Americans.
“We are not scared of them, we’ll come to and play our hear out. We are good side as well,” she said.
The young forward is one of the stars of the Nigerian team, winning woman of the match award twice out of three Group game.
