The Falconets ended the group stage campaign at the ongoing FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup with an empathetic victory over Canada this Thursday morning.
Fresh from the back to back to wins over France and South Africa, Falconets went into the last Group C encounter as favorites for the three points.
The team however lived up to expectations and the hype as the game ended 3-1 Canada in their favor.
Canada took the lead inside the opening four minutes of the game after they capitalized on the error from the Nigerian goalkeeper.
The Africans found their way back to the game and drew level in the 20th minute.
Falconets won a penalty after Canada’s defender handled the ball inside her own area and Esther Onyenezide converted the kick.
Another penalty kick was awarded to Falconets eight minutes later after Mercy Idoko suffers a poor challenge inside the Canadian box.
Esther Onyenezide steps forward and beats the goalkeeper for the second time from the spot.
Substitute Chioma Olise added the third and latching onto a pass from Rofiat Imuran cross inside the four additional times.
Following the victory at Estadio Alajuela Morera Soto, the Falconets proceed to the quarter-final with nine points for the first time.
