Dessers reacts to Feyenoord Cult hero status

Cyriel Dessers doesn’t see himself as immortal at Feyenoord, despite helping the Rotterdam side reach the semi-final of the Europa Conference League.

Dessers single-handedly carried Feyenoord to the last four of this season’s and Conference League with 11-goal contribution.

The 27-year-old has scored Eight goals and provided three assists of Feyenoord’s twenty-five goals in the competition.

Following the Forward’s terrific form, many fans owed their adventure in the Europa League to Dessers, but the striker had something else in mind.

“Cult hero, actually, I don’t like to hear that,” said Dessers in GvA.

“To me, cult footballers are players who were not really that good, but who have played themselves in the hearts of the fans. In the beginning it was funny: I came on many times and scored a couple of times in the 92nd minute.”

“So I understand. But I think I’ve shown more than that in the meantime. If you can shoot a team like Feyenoord to the semi-finals of a European cup, the cult is a bit off,” He said.

Dessers is expected to be in action when Feyenoord take on Olympique Marseille in the first leg of the UEFA Conference League semi-final on Thursday.
