Striker Taiwo Awoniyi has recorded a new record for Union Berlin after scoring against Eintracht Frankfurt at Stadion An der Alten Forsterei on Sunday.
The Nigerian forward scored in the 2-0 win over the Europa League semifinal in the Bundesliga clash.
Awoniyi scores the first goal in the 17th minute before Grischa Promel drilled home the second in the 20th minute of the entertaining fixture.
The 24-year-old has now scored 13 goals in the league campaign alone this season.
It was his personal best at the topflight level since moving to Europe and the effort saw him become the first player from Union Berlin to score 13 goals in a Bundesliga season.
Awoniyi is also Union Berlin’s most expensive signing, after arriving from Liverpool in an €8m deal last summer.
Meanwhile, only Anthony Modeste of FC Koln (16) – Christopher Nkunku of RB Leipzig (17) – Erling Haaland of Borussia Dortmund (18) – Patrik Schick of Bayer Leverkusen (20) and Robert Lewandowski of Bayern Munich (32) have scored more goals than the former Liverpool this season.
