Gateway United will go into their Southwest derby against Ekiti United on the back of a win and the head Coach Toyin Ayinla believes his team can use that as inspiration.
On Saturday, Gateway United edged Ibom Youth FC 1-0 at the MKO Abiola International Stadium in an NNL matchday 10 encounter.
The hosts secured the slim victory mid way through the game from an Afeez Yusuf’s one-time volley as he connected a loose ball in the area.
Speaking after the game, Coach Ayinla said, he was happy with the home win and charged the boys to replicate the performance on the road.
“What a game. It was a hard fought one where we gave it our all to pick up maximum points,” Ayinla explained.
“At times, what matters most is not the high scoreline but the ability to pip the opponents to the 3 maximum points”
“Like I have said for the umpteenth time, we take it game by game. We look for ways to get even much better particularly on the road. Of course, our focus is now on our next trip which is against Ekiti United in matchday 11”
Gateway United remain on top of their NNL Group, with Insurance of Benin following closely in second place.
