2022 World Cup Qualifier: Eagles must take things one game at a time, says Akpeyi

Super Eagles goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi believes the team must take it one game at a time as they begin their journey for a ticket to Qatar against Liberia on Friday.

The Eagles will be aiming to make their seventh appearance at global football showpiece, but they must negotiate their way past Liberia, Cape Verde, and Central African Republic in Group C.

With Cape Verde and Central African Republic playing out a 1-all draw in Douala on Wednesday, Akpeyi who will be making his 18th appearance for the Eagles if given the nod on Friday, is looking forward to a victory against Liberia.

The 35-year-old shotstopper added that the team must focus on one game at a time to ensure early world cup qualification like they have done in recent international tournament qualifers.

“We are looking forward to having a victory (against Liberia) to ease the pressure of trying to qualify which we have actually been doing ever since Rohr came on board,” he told brila.net.

“So we take it one game at a time. Our first game is on Friday, however, we have to be positive and hopeful in making sure we come out tops so that it can keep us at ease going into the last game.” he added.

The Eagles will however travel to Cape Verde next Tuesday for their match-day two encounter.
