Nigeria’s Omotayo Olajide has been eliminated from Tokyo Olympics men’s  table tennis events after a defeat to Tiago Apolonia on Saturday.
Omotayo is appearing at the Olympics for the first time in his career was beaten in four straight by the Portuguese.
Apolonia dominated the contest and won 7-11,9-11, 6-11,5-11 to advance into the next round of the men’s singles.
Omotayo is second Nigeria’s table tennis player to bid the single event goodbye after veteran Funke Oshonaike.
Olufunke Oshonaike was beaten by America’s Juan Liu in the early hour of Saturday morning.
The 47 year old lost by four set to one (7-11, 3-11, 4-11, 13-11, 4-11) in the preliminary round of the Women’s singles Table Tennis event.
Meanwhile, Offiong Edem qualified for the second round of theWomen’s Singles after beating Dora Madarasz of Hungary 4-1 (11-8,11-9, 11-9, 9-11,11-4).
Offing Edem will now face Lily Zhang of the United States.
