Abia warriors continued their excellent league form with an emphatic 3-1 victory over Katsina United on Sunday.
Imama Amapakabo made few changes to the team that drew 1-1 against Adamawa United last time out, while Katsina United gaffer Godwin Bazuaye stuck with the same eleven that started Thursday’s win over Rangers.
The first chance of the game fell to the visitors, but Goalkeeper Ojo Olorunleke was well positioned to keep out Abdul Rasheed Ahmed’s shot.
Two saves in quick succession by Katsina goalkeeper Yusuf Muhammad denied Abia Warriors from taking the lead after 15 minutes.
First he blocked Paul Samson’s shot before tipping Fatai Abdullahi’s long range effort over.
In the 28th minute, the visitors intercepted Warriors’ attack and countered through Boubacar Massaly but Ojo denied him with a superb one-handed save.
Abia Warriors broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute with in form Chukwuemeka Obioma finishing off a cut back by Samuel Christian.
Paul Samson doubled Abia Warriors lead from a superb free kick five minutes before the half time break.
On return for the second half, Fatai Abdullahi scored the third put the game beyond Katsina United, thanks to an assist from Obioma Chukwuemeka.
The visitors reduced the deficit from the spot after Harrison Ibukun was penalized for handling the ball inside the box.
With the win, Abia warriors currently occupy the 8th position with a total of 24 points while Katsina United are a spot above relegation.
