Former Nigeria international Garba Lawal has reacted to the late invitation of Paul Onuachu for this month’s AFCON qualifiers against Benin Republic and Lesotho.
Onuachu was initially placed among the seven players on standby by Coach Gernot Rohr for the encounters, but he has now been drafted into the main squad after Simon Moses opted out.
In a chat with brila.net, Lawal admitted that the Forward will feel hard done being placed on the standby despite scoring 27 goals for his club this season.
The former JC Roda player however urged the forward to grab the opportunity with both hands and prove his worth to the national team handlers.
“Any decision he takes, we’ll have to take in good faith. He would feel slighted; the hottest Nigerian striker in Europe snubbed. But if he thinks well and calm about this, he would play for the Super Eagles; to represent Nigeria that’s the important thing.
“Patience is very important, as footballers there are things you see that won’t sit well, but because of the Coaches and the Country you want to play.
“It’s all about You; You have your abilities and qualities and you would want to excel, so people know you’re in form.”
“You can’t tear the house down over one person. This is your profession, so allow history judge.” He told brila.net.
The Super Eagles will battle Benin Republic on the 27th on March in Port Novo, before hosting Lesotho in Lagos three days later.
