Goalkeeper Abiodun Akande was at his best as he helped Rivers United earn a valuable point against FC Ifeanyi Ubah on Sunday.
Akande made series of fine saves to ensure Rivers United return to Port Harcourt with a point.
After several minutes on the back foot, the visitors’Â best opportunity to score fell to Nelson Esor down the left but his effort towards goal went just off target.
Godwin Aguda and Fortune Omoniwari also saw their efforts saved by FC Ifeanyi Ubah goalkeeper Usoigwe Sharp in the second half.
Akande kept his side in the game with series of saves to deny Ekene Awaziem ( twice) , Abel James and Emmanuel Uchegbu.
Neither side could make the breakthrough after ninety minutes of action.
Speaking after the game, Rivers United gaffer Stanley Eguma said he was satisfied with a point after such magnificent display from the home side.
“It’s a valuable point I must say. It’s better than nothing but I must say we prepared to get the three points here today but unfortunately we were able to get one. We make do with that one, It’s ok. We thank God for it and we are going to work harder for our next game.
Next for Rivers United is home tie with MFM at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium on Wednesday afternoon, before a trip Lobi Stars at the Aper Aku Stadium Makurdi on Sunday.
