Football is Much Easier now than before – Mutiu Adepoju

Ex Super Eagles and Real Sociedad midfielder Mutiu Adepoju says the availability of modern facilities and technologies have made football much easier than in the past.

Adepoju represent Nigeria at the FIFA U20 World Cup in 1989 and he was also member of Super Eagles squad to FIFA World Cup in 1994, 1998 and 2002.

The former Real Madrid and Real Sociedad player, who was nicknamed “head master” during his playing days spent most of his career in Spain.

He made a total of 175 appearances in LaLiga and scored 22 goals over the course of seven seasons until his retirement in 2006.

While speaking to brila.net on how the game has evolved over the years, Adepoju said players are exposed to better training facilities and better stadia now compared to their time.

He concluded that the game is very much easier and more developed than before.

“There were different ways of training in our time; there wasn’t much technology. These days it’s different, the technique with the aid of technology enhances players’performance,” Adepoju explained.

“It’s much better and easier to do things now. But if we had been exposed to technology and complimented with the amount of physicality in our game, perhaps things would have played out differently.

“When I was in the Flying Eagles, we would run from the Liberty Stadium to University Ibadan (UI), because endurance and physical training was crucial. Today most of it is done on the pitch.”  He told brila.net.
