England Relying more on Players of Nigerian Descent, Invites Tammy Abraham to U21s

Kevin Oghenetega Tamaraebi Bakumo-Abraham or Tammy Abraham is poised and determined to repeat – for England – the feat achieved by six other English players of Nigerian decent for the Lions when he leads the U21s attack tot he UEFA Euro 2017 championship.

Tammy, 19, was in red hot form last season on loan from Chelsea to Bristol City.

The striker scored 26 goals to keep the Robins in the Championship and earn a place in the England 21 squad.

At the weekend Dominic Solanke, Ademola Lookman, Fikayo Tomori, Joshua Onomah, Seyi Ojo and Oviemuno Ejaria helped the Young Lions win their first ever U20 World Cup title and England first major honor in football since 1966.

For Tammy, who takes the place of Marcus Rashford in Aidy Boothroyd’s team, it has been a season of progress, on the pitch if not in the kitchen, and he’s ready for a starring summer role after maturing.

‘I’ve enjoyed living by myself in the past nine months. I was used to my mum’s cooking before – although my cooking is still rubbish,’ he told Press Association Sport.

‘When I first came to Bristol, knowing it was Championship football, playing against experienced men, I knew it would be tough.

‘The club has given me my first chance to express myself and show what I can do. For a team to have that belief in me is amazing.

‘It’s going to be tough but our aim is to win and do the best we can. I wouldn’t say we’re under pressure but we are going to do our best,’ said the 6ft 3in frontman.

‘I have confidence going into it but it’s never going to be easy. Hopefully I’ve done enough this season to get into the team. If I have, I’ll work as hard as I can.

‘It’s still my ambition to be at the top level, and be playing for England – especially like a competition like the World Cup.

‘You know there are other players out there, but to be picked for England it shows you are doing something right. It’s a good feeling.’
