Leon Balogun’s club Wigan Athletic could be relegated to the league one after the club announced they have gone into administration.

Wigan announced on Wednesday that they are facing financial difficulties due to the effects of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The Latics, who sit 14th on the English championship table said they are in talks with some interested people in a bid to save the club from going into possible extinction.

Balogun joined the club on an initial loan deal from Brighton and Hove Albion back in January, however, the deal was made permanent last week after his good performances.

The club is on a wonderful run of results, beating Huddersfield, Blackburn, and Stoke without conceding a goal to pull eight points clear of the drop.

However, all that could be amount to nothing as they are now facing a possible twelve points deduction which is the punishment for going into administration.

Wigan are 14th on the standing with 50 points, seven points ahead of relegation, although the punishment will only apply this season if they finish above the relegation zone.

They won promotion to the Premier League in 2005 and remained in the top flight until they were relegated in 2013 – the same season in which they won the FA Cup.
