Rivers Hoopers shooting guard, Ikechukwu Benjamin has revealed he will put up a good show when the inaugural Basketball Africa League regular season kicks off later this month across 7 different centres.
In a chat with brila.net the shooting guard expressed his excitement with the new additions of Billy Baptist, Ahmed Handy Mohammed and Kaylon Tappin DeyShaun to his team and described it as a welcome development.
“Every opportunity I get to play basketball is a challenge, I challenge myself during training, during games because at every point there are people that always want to take your spot, which I think is good because it leaves room for improvement, for me to get better but the Coach has the final say on who plays and I believe they’ll make the right decision.”
“Preparations are going well, we’ve been in camp over a month now, we’ve been practicing and I feel excited and blessed to be among the Basketball players that will have the opportunity to play at such a big stage and showcase our talents.
On his target going into the competition , Benjamin said “I want to help my team by adding my offensive quarter to the team and see us progress as far as we can get.”
Benjamin also added that the Port Harcourt based sides are underdogs in the Nile conference as none of the opposing teams are walk over, However remained optimistic of their chances.
“I don’t think any team will be a walk over in the Nile conference especially the North African clubs because they’ve more experience at this stage, however I’m not scared of any of the teams in the group because basketball is played on the court and anything is possible.
Nigeria’s representatives at the inaugural edition of the Basketball Africa League, Rivers Hoopers have been drawn in the Nile Conference alongside Zamalek of Egypt, Union Sportive Monastirienne of Tunisia, Mozambique’s Ferroviario de Maputo, Forces Armes et Police Basketball (FAP) of Cameroun and Patriots Basketball Club of Rwanda.
