FIBA Africa has confirmed Egypt as the hosts of the much-anticipated FIBA U18 Women’s African Championship 2020.
The 16th edition of the biennial continental competition will take place from July 10-19 at the Cairo Indoor Stadium in the Egyptian capital.
Egypt is quickly becoming the home of women’s basketball in Africa after Cairo hosted a thrilling FIBA Africa Women’s Champions Cup in December at the same venue.
Egypt has hosted several international competitions including the FIBA U19 World Cup in 2017 in Cairo as well as FIBA AfroBasket editions right from the inaugural one back in 1962 through to 1992 and 2003 in Alexandria.
In 2018, the Cairo Indoor Stadium hosted the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 African Second Round Qualifiers as well as several other tournaments.
Mali remain the team to beat as they have won a record seven titles with Democratic Republic of Congo winning twice and Egypt, Senegal, Angola and Tunisia winning once each.
