Rowing rising star Esther Tamaraebi Toko is set to make history at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games when she becomes the first home based Athlete to represent Nigeria in the event at the Summer games.
Toko qualified for the games at the 13th African Rowing championships, the African Olympic and Paralympic Qualification Regatta in Tunisia last year.
She has since resumed practice at the National Institute for Sports, Lagos with training partner and Team Nigeria captain Michael Moses.
The pair won individual bronze in the Coastal rowing event at the first ever African Beach Games in Cape Verde in 2019. They also won silver in the mixed team event.
Brila.net understand that Toko could also embark on a foreign training tour to complete her preparation for the Olympic Games.
She would compete in the Single sculls and will take place between 24 and 31 July 2020 at the Sea Forest Waterway (Central Breakwater) in Tokyo Bay.
Nigeria could potentially present four Athletes (Olympic and Paralympics) in Tokyo.
