Super Eagles winger Samuel Kalu’s has been omitted from Bordeaux’s 18-man matchday squad ahead of their Coupe de France Round of 16 encounter against minnows, Pau FC at Stade du Hameau on Thursday (today).
The Nigeria International recently made the headlines for the wrong reason after returning late to France following the Christmas and New Year break and was reported to be facing a ban.
However, Bordeaux manager, Paulo Sousa pardoned him and only over the weekend, Kalu came on for Youssouf Sabaly in the 54th minute as Bordeaux lost 2-1 to Lyon in a French Ligue Un game.
Ahead of their match against Pau, though, Bordeaux wrote on their official Twitter handle:
@FC Girondins de Bordeaux – “Discover the group chosen by Paulo Sousa for the 16th final of coupe de France against Pau FC”
While Kalu’s name was omitted from the list, his compatriot and in-form attacker, Josh Maja will play a part for the Girondins later today as he was included in the list.
The 21-year-old Maja has scored six goals and contributed two other assists in 18 appearances across all competitions for the Girondins during the 2019/2020 season.
Kalu on his part has found the back of the net just once while setting up one other goal despite playing one more game in every competition than Maja this term (19).
