Former Nigeria international Victor Ikpeba has told Victor Osimhen not to get carried away with his recent fine form for Club and Country.
Ikpeba also told the young striker to shun any comparison with Nigerian legend late the Rashidi Yekini, and rather focus on his career.
Osimhen is Lille top scorer this season with 11 goals in 21 appearances in all competitions so far and he has also netted on four occasions for the Super Eagles this year.
After scoring thrice in Nigeria’s 2021 Afcon qualifiers against Benin Republic and Lesotho, the revealed his desire to replace late former African footballee of the year as the Super Eagles all time top scorer, while many also called him the new Rashidi Yekini.
Ikpeba, who played a alongside late Yekini, warned that Osimhen must not get carried away by the present success and dismissed the shout that the 20 year old is new Yekini.
“I spoke with Victor (Osimhen) recently in Uyo, I told him he should put his legs down, he should not get carried away, the journey is still long, he is not the new (Rashidi) Yekini yet, he has the potential to be one of the best strikers we have in Nigeria and the Super Eagles.
“So these players, people around them have to tell them the truth. They have to keep on working hard to get to the top of their professional career.” Ikpeba told Brila FM.
