When Alex Iwobi moved from the Emirates stadium to Goodison Park, it was needed; a change of environment meant to help the Nigerian star on his path to fulfilling what great potentials he has.
Iwobi commanded a decent fee, £40million for a winger or attacking midfielder, who had graced the Champions League won three FA Cup crowns and with 36 international caps (at the time).
Even though he was part of a clear out at Arsenal under now erstwhile Manager Unai Emery, Iwobi had shown enough quality to be wanted on any starting list of any Dark horse team in the PL.
But four months down the line, not the player but the system at Everton may derail his upward growth trajectory, with the Club having to do away with Manager Marco Silva.
They’re knee deep in relegation and the future of their £400million squad with a new manager remains, largely, uncertain.
The Nigerian could perhaps be one of the few stars at Everton with real concerns over his interests being protected under a new leadership in the dugout and for a few salient reasons.
Unlike the Brazilian star Richarlison, who also only recently signed a contract extension, Iwobi’s role in the first team is important – but unlike the Forward’s is not clear.
He plays like the number 10, but with the duties of an 8 or just a dummy runner.
He doesn’t seem to be guaranteed a starter’s berth, because of the amount of competition in the creative department of the team, but no one ever really understood how Silva decided who to rest this week or who gets the nod to start the next game.
