2019, A year of learning for Cricket – NCF president Ukwenya

Nigeria Cricket Federation president, Prof. Yahaya Ukwenya has stated that progress of Nigeria cricket can be measured with the International competitions the various National Cricket teams participated in 2019, as the year was filled with ‘first-ever’.

In a chat with brila.net Prof. Ukwenya revealed the steps the federation had taken “Some progress have been made in 2019, we qualified for 1st ever world cup with the U-19 team which is a major development as Nigeria cricket over 100 years have not appeared at any global tournaments.

 

The female senior team participated at the African qualifiers for the first time, while the men’s team participated at the T20 world qualifiers, it was a learning experience and there is a lot of work to be done there which we have identified.”

 

Prof. Yahaya Ukwenya also disclosed that the U-19 team will get the best preparation for the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in other to stand a chance against their tough group opponents.

 

“We will give the boys the best of preparations we can afford, After returning from the training tour in South Africa in October they are currently on recess and will report to camp soon.

 

They will start camping in Lagos and later tour one of the three potential venues; India, Namibia and South Africa for a month before the competition starts. We are up against the best countries at the world championship, we are just going to enjoy ourselves, get the experience and fly the Nigerian flag.”
