Lesotho midfielder Hlompho Kalake has admitted that the Crocodiles are battle-ready and well-prepared to take on the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Sunday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
The Likuena who played out a 1-1 draw away to Serria Leone in their opening game of the 2021 AFCON qualifiers, have never qualified for a major tournament, missing out by just two points in the last AFCON qualifying series.
However, Kaleka believes Likuena have improved drastically over the last few years and are well-equipped to be a hard-nut to crack for Nigeria in Group L that also includes Benin and Serria Leone.
“We came very close to securing qualification for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations and again recently with the African Nations Championship (CHAN), where we lost to Zimbabwe in the final round of qualifiers.”
“For me those are the signs that we are now a competitive team and have managed to close the gap between us and most of these of countries that used to beat us in almost every game. We just have to maintain those standards and improve with every game we play.”
Lesotho will entertain the Super Eagles at the Lesotho Stadium in Maseru on Sunday from 5 pm Nigerian time.
