What helped us thump Nigeria’s Eaglets- Trevor Morgan

Australia U-17 head coach, Trevor Morgan, has revealed his team never-say-die attitude made them to record a 2-1 victory over the Golden Eaglets in the last group game on Friday at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Brazil.

The Joeys lost 2-1 to Ecuador in their first game before coming back from two goals down against Hungary to draw 2-all.

However, the Australians needed to get the maximum points against Manu Garba’s boys to have a chance of qualification for the round of 16.

Noah Botic bagged a brace against Nigeria to ensure the Joeys finish as one of the four best third-place finishers with four points.

“We came here to win games and, although Nigeria was fantastic, we got the result,” said Morgan.

“It’s a plus for the boys, for their commitment and belief to come here and play a top team and win.

“They had to dig deep. The Joeys played an excellent team with great quality and great physical capacity. We had to defend well which I think is important in winning. “

The Golden Eaglets, on the other hand, need to be more composed in front of goal if they are to go far in the tournament they have won five times.
