Home based Super Eagles Coach Imama Amakapabo said it was difficult for his team to compete after suffering back to back defeat to Togo in CHAN qualifiers and WAFU Cup respectively.
The team suffered another defeat to lowly rated Cape Verde in the plate match of the WAFU Cup on Saturday , meaning they have failed to win or draw any of their last three competition match .
Coach Imama however told the media that the team is struggling mentally and have difficulty coping with the set backs because some of the players are featuring at the stage for the first time in the career.
“Mentally, it’s tough for my team, coming out for today’s game after back-to-back defeat to Togo. Most of the players are playing at this level for the first time, fitness was also a big challenge for the players.” He said.
Imama and his boys will have to bounce back quickly for the visit of Togo next week.
Nigeria needs to score at least three goals to qualify for next year’s CHAN, after losing the first leg 4-1.
