Rivers United Coach, Stanley Eguma has said picking three points against FUS Rabat in the CAF Confederation Cup is “very important” for Nigeria’s only surviving club in on the Continent.
Rabat are top of Group A with three points after their 3-0 win against Kampala City, while Club Africain are second and Rivers United third in the group.
United have struggled this season and particularly on the domestic front, the club had faced the pressure for fighting relegation early on.
The Port Harcourt based club are Nigeria’s only surviving representative on the continent; after the ouster of Enugu Rangers, FC Ifeanyi Ubah and Wikki Tourists, however their performance has also not been impressive.
Speaking ahead of his side’s NPFL match Today against Nasarawa United, Eguma appealed to the fans describing the loss in Radès as “unfortunate”.
Following United’s 3-1 defeat away to Club Africain in the CAF Confederation Cup last week, Eguma said it was unfortunate but assures that the team will “do our best, I think we need to sit up.”
The Coach said, “We need to win our next game at home, though every game is important; whether home or away.”
“All we need to do is correct our lapses and mistakes and come out stronger in the next game and to win. It is very important for us”.
Rivers United host FUS Rabat on Wednesday at the Yakubu Gowon stadium in their second group A match.
