Amusan Disqualified, As Okagbare Finished Fifth At IAAF Diamond League

Nigeria sprint queen, Blessing Okagbare finished fifth at the money-spinning IAAF Diamond League 100m event on Friday evening at the AG Memorial Van Damme meeting.

Okagbare’s return time of 11.24 seconds was way behind the duo of Dina Asher-Smith of England (10.88) and Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pyrce (10.95), while Ivorian, Marie-Josee Ta Lou finished third with 11.09 seconds.

Okagbare previously failed last week in Zurich at the Weltklasse Diamond League meeting where she ran 22.62 seconds to place sixth in the 200m event.

In the 100m hurdles, Amusan was disqualified from the final after a false start.

Amusa who ran 12.51 seconds at the IAAF World Challenge in Berlin early in the week however failed in her bid to break 21-year-old Gloria Alozie’s record of 12.44 at the meeting.

While Amusan failed to make the podium, Okagbare pocketed $5000  for her effort.
