Flying Eagles goalkeeper Detan Ogundare has stated that he is excited to have played a key role in Nigeria’s qualification to the final of the football event of the Africa games following his penalty heroics in Tuesday’s 5-4 semi-final penalty shootout win against Mali.
Ogundare speaking in a chat with brila.net said the game wasn’t an easy one and the whole team knew it could go down this route again after a scoreless 120 minutes same way it was between both side having faced Mali previously at the CAF Africa U20 cup of nations earlier this year.
He added that winning Gold is the team’s next target now that they have secured qualification to play in the final.
“I’m so excited been the hero of the game you know it’s something we have been working for, the penalty is something that we have worked so well on in training and we thank God that it reflected in the main match.
With God on our side and the prayer of Nigerians, it’s going to work for our favour and we will also correct our lapses against Mali before the final game.”
Nigeria will play Burkina Faso in the final of the men’s football event after the Burkinabes also booked their place in the final on penalty shootouts.
