Chelsea have conceded 9 goals in six pre-season friendlies and it’s a defensive frailty that bothers Manager Frank Lampard, who expressed need to improve on it.
Lampard’s reassurance that ‘no doors are closed yet’ on any player – including Nigeria’s Kenneth Omeruo – yet to get game time under his watch ahead of Chelsea’s PL opening day fixture against Manchester United.
The Chelsea Boss only has three first team Center backs available for the August 11 fixture at Old Trafford, but has the option of bringing Omeruo – whose future is undecided – on board.
Speaking after Chelsea’s latest pre-season win against RB Salzburg on Wednesday, the Blues’ Gaffer said.
‘The fact that there were goals at both ends tells the story. Great attacking line from us. It’s a concern we conceded, but we have time to improve on that.’
‘We have a squad with a lot of players and getting to this point now, I can’t bring everyone and give everyone 90 minutes so there are players who have stayed back to train rather than travel and not play.
‘So I would not read too much into it in one game, we are a work in progress with this squad.’
