Delay not Denial – The story of Senegalese star Idrissa Gueye

In February 2019, Everton midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye disclosed that he was close to joining PSG during the January transfer window as he was the subject of multiple bids from the French champions, though the deal fell through Idrissa Gana Gueye stated his strong belief that he could make the move in the future, hoping that Paris Saint-Germain revive their interest in the 2019 summer market, he said “I am going to work even more so that they come back to me.

Maybe it is not finished with PSG…”

Five months after, his disappointments turned into happiness as his dreams finally became reality, Paris Saint-Germain announced they had signed Idrissa Gueye on a four year deal from Everton for £30m.

Following his unveiling, he said “It hasn’t fully sunk in yet, but ever since I was a little kid I’ve dreamed of one day playing for a club like Paris Saint-Germain… the prospect of playing at the Parc is a dream come true…”

Gueye who scored the goal that advanced Senegal to the semi-final of the 2019 AFCON in Egypt, knows all about sacrifices which his role requires “As everyone knows, I’m a defensive midfielder, a hard-worker, there for the team and ready to make sacrifices to help the team.

I’m always ready to give everything on the pitch: chase down opponents, defend and above all, I’m happy when I’m playing football, I was made for that, it’s my life. I’m not scared of a battle and I don’t pay too much attention to the stats. I just give everything for the shirt and my teammates to try and win.”

Since making his debut for Everton in August 2016, Idrissa Gueye made more tackles (395) and interceptions (218) than any other player in the Premier League.

“I matured a lot in England. I also acquired a thirst for victory, for the battle and that will never leave me. I have come here to help the team win as many trophies as possible.”
