KRC Gent thrashed KV Mouscron 3-0 at the weekend to secure their first silverware of the season as they clinched the Belgian Super Cup, Nigerian forward Steven Odey celebrated with his new teammates.
Odey was not listed for the game, but Africa had a representation in Tanzania’s Mbawana Samatta.
Samatta led that attack line of Emmanuel Amunike’s Taifa Stars in Egypt, scoring just once in the competition.
Tanzania’s early elimination from the AFCON meant Samatta could rejoin Genk early enough and he was thrown into the fray against Mouscron.
Eventually he got 71 minutes action in the contest – between the reigning Belgian Pro League champions and Belgian Cup holders – as De Smurfen throttled off to a comfortable win – .
In his tweet on Sunday, Odey celebrated with his winner’s medal and the Cup, just months after joining the Belgian League champions.
“I count myself lucky to have lifted two major trophies under three years since moving to Europe.
First it was Swiss Cup with FC Zurich and now Belgian Super Cup with @KRCGenkofficial,” Odey tweeted.
