Assistant coach of Nigeria’s women national team Mauren Madu has welcomed the decision of CAF to increase the number of participating countries at the biennial Africa women cup of nations tournament from 8 to 12 countries as she believes this will provide opportunity for other countries to feature in the tournament.
Madu speaking in a chat with www.brila.net said the increment will increase competition level and provide more openings for emerging nations to thrive and admitted that it will also challenge the top teams to prepare harder because of longer pathway to the final non terms of more games to be played.
“For CAF they know why they increase the number but I think it’s a welcome development and it will give opportunity for other countries to prepare well and for some to feature at the tournament.
It’s going to be a longer pathway because there will be quarter final matches. So teams will have to be at their best with more knockout games playing through the quarter final, semi final up till the final.”
