Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peterside Idah has called on the Nigeria football federation to sack the senior national team coach Gernot Rohr, after Afcon semi-final failure to Algeria.
Nigeria lost 2-1 to the Desert Foxes last Sunday and ended the hope of winning the trophy for the fourth time in the country‘s history.
While reacting to the performance of the team and its technical crew, Idah believes Rohr has overstayed and should be moved on from the job by his employers.
“For the Eagles to soar to greater heights, the coach should be sacked, let him go. Rohr was not prepared for this job. You don’t learn in the national team, you must come prepared to do the job,” Idah begins his critique of Rohr’s game plans.
“At some point during the Algeria game, he did not know what to do next. He played most of the players out of position which affected the balance of the team. Iwobi was clearly tired against the Algerians and he did not change him.
Idah who spent most of his playing career in South Africa added that he would be surprised , should the glass house failed to sack the Franco-German manager.
“Feelings come to play in this. I think Rohr feels he has done well enough by taking us to the World Cup, qualifying for the Nations Cup and needs new challenge. I would be surprised if they (NFF) keeps him on the job,” he concluded
Rohr is expected to lead the Super Eagles out against Tunisia for the third place match on Wednesday.
