Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi has been ruled out from the Africa Cup of Nations due to knee injury.
The Trabzonspor new man was reported to have sustained a kneeinjury in Super Eagles’ Group B encounter with Madagascar in Alexandria last Sunday.
Brila.net understands that Mikel was initially set to miss the round of sixteen clash against the indomitable Lions on Saturday, however a further test on the on his injured knee revealed he’s no in conditions to play further part in the tournament anymore.
Mikel has struggled for fitness and form since returning to the national team, after a year absence, the 31-year-old was substituted in Nigeria’s 1-0 over Burundi and the shocking defeat to Madagascar, he failed to get on the pitch against Guinea.
The former Chelsea midfielder will now focus on starting pre season with Trabzonspor, after he signed a two-year contract with Turkish Super Lig outfit.
