Club Legend Didier Drogba has backed former teammate and Derby County Boss Frank Lampard to take over from Maurizio Sarri as the next Chelsea manager, with the Italian set to join Juventus.
The Serie A champions are expected to announce Sarri’s arrival in the next couple of days after agreeing on a compensation package with Chelsea worth around £5million.
Chelsea have been linked with a host of names to succeed Sarri, though Blues legend and current Derby County boss Lampard is the clear favourite for the job.
And despite only having one season of management under his belt – in which he lost the play-off final against Aston Villa – Drogba says Lampard is a strong candidate.
‘I think it is a very good option for the club,’ the Ivory Coast legend told reporters as he prepares to play in Soccer Aid. ‘He has done well with Derby, taking the team to the play-off final.’
