Olympic gold medalist and former Nigerian athlete, Enefiok Udo Obong has revealed to brila.net that he’ll run for the Athletics Federation of Nigeria presidency at next month’s election, but declared that he has no Godfather backing his bid.
Udo Obong said he’s walking blind into the election having consulted only “my constituents, by that I mean our former athletes”.
He declared that he has no godfather or powerbroker to whom he’d be answerable if he emerges and concedes it’s a good thing.
According to in-house sources, incumbent President Solomon Ogba will not return, but has picked a successor to run in the June 13 election.
However, in new developments, news emerged that the election may be stalled after a legislative order for the Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung to halt the process owing to the dissenting voices against the guidelines.
Reacting to the news, Udo Obong said those against the elections happening benefited from the bad system and are against the new direction because it threatened their vested interests.
