Club Africain 3-1 Rivers United: Eguma lost in Rades

A second half revival that needed a full thrust ran out of gas and the players lost focus like a flock without a herder to guide them.

The story of Rivers United in Rades as they crashed to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Club Africain in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup group A match.

The hosts opened scoring on the 23rd minute and followed that up with another in additional time of the first half.

United showed no composure, gifting the 2011 runners up possession with so many lose balls.

Eguma’s men struggled to win second balls and were lucky they didn’t concede more in the first half.

The second half started off slightly better than the first and John Odumegwu’s goal in 53 minutes looked to launch a bold comeback bid, but it would not be.

A gifted chance from the spot was ballooned high into the Tunisian night sky.

Almost immediately another Chance fell to United but this time, the Club Africain goalkeeper earned his spot, making himself big to make a near post save.

Coupled with poor finishing, the NPFL representative showed no organisation.

Eguma could not possibly be proud of the outcome and neither can he blame preparation or welfare.

The Port Harcourt side have won only one of their last matches in all competitions, on 24 May they return to the continent where they face FUS Rabat.
