Behind WTA Finals champion Elina Svitolina, a stream of young talent is rising up the WTA rankings, from Dayana Yastremska to Daria Lopatetska with Ukraine emerging as a tennis powerhouse and Svitolina has never failed to show a good example with her acts of kindness.
16-year-old, Daria Lopatetska who has compiled a 40-7 record on the ITF World Tour, including five titles, and risen to World No.251 since her first professional appearance in June 2018 needed knee surgery for a torn meniscus after getting injured in the ITF W25 Rome in May but her parents could not afford to pay the money needed for her knee surgery.
Daria needed €12, 000 to fix her leg and former World Number three, Elina Svitolina stepped up to covered the entire expenses for the knee operation.
Elina Svitolina and her partner, Gael Monfils donate 100 dollars per every successful ace they slam during their tournaments to the children of the hospital of Odessa, (a city where Svitolina was born in Ukraine).
Svitolina expressing her joy in being generous said “It is important to help people when you can. I was sad when I heard because it is a very young age to go through bad injuries.
It can damage your future. I hope she recovers soon because she is one of Ukraine’s rising stars.”
The 24-year-old lost 6-3 6-3 to 2016 champion Garbine Muguruza in the third round at the 2019 Roland Garros.
