GHANA eyeing first AFCON trophy in 32 years

Four-time AFCON winners, The Black Stars of Ghana in preparation for the Africa cup of Nations in Egypt will play Namibia in their first international friendly game on Sunday, June 9 and take on South Africa in their second friendly game to be played four days later.

The Ghana senior men’s team who are on a three-week camping exercise in Abu Dhabi have a full house as all players invited have reported to camp with MLS based stars Ebenezer Ofori and Jonathan Mensah being the last players to arrive in camp.

Ghana coach Kwasi Appiah is expected to name his final 23-man squad for the tournament after the friendly.

Meanwhile, Swiss Super League side FC St Gallen defender, Musah Nuhu has been ruled out of the tournament after picking an injury in camp during training reducing the number of players in their camp to 28.

At the 2017 AFCON, Ghana reached the semi-finals of the competition and were eliminated by Cameroon.

The Black Stars who are making their 22nd appearance at the AFCON tournament have been pitted against defending champions Cameroon, Benin and Guinea-Bissau in Group F of the Afcon.
