As proceedings continue at the Tombim Abuja open, Nigeria Number 1, Sylvester Emmanuel, the only Nigerian player who was contesting for a spot in the quarterfinals, retired due to a wrist injury against Zimbabwe’s Benjamin Lock while trailing 0-6, 0-3 in their second-round encounter on Thursday.
Lock, who’s ranked 548th in the world, had sped to a first set win and was up 3-0 in the second set before Emmanuel called it quits as a result of the injury.
The Zimbabwean lost to Arjun Kadhe of India in the Quarterfinal 6-3, 3-6, 7-6.
