Former Super Eagles shot stopper and former Eagles goalkeeping coach, Ike Shorunmu has revealed that the goalkeeping trio of Francis Uzoho, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, and Daniel Akpeyi all need their confidence boosted ahead of the African cup of Nations in Egypt if they are to perform well for the country.
Uzoho came under attack from soccer lovers in the country after his costly howler gifted Seychelles their only goal in their 3-1 loss to the Eagles in Asaba during their final AFCON qualifying match, while Akpeyi and Ezenwa stood between the sticks either half of the 1-0 win against Egypt four days after, last month
Shorunmu, speaking exclusively to www.brila.net said confidence would go a long way in ensuring the shot-stoppers gave their best moving forward.
“There’s nothing we can do right now, the goalkeepers that we have now, they have been with the team for the last 3-4 years”.
“The only thing we have to do now is to give them the confidence, you can’t just change everything overnight”.
“Once they are given the confidence, they will go places”, he concluded.
