Head Coach of Rangers International of Enugu Gbenga Ogunbote has rubbished claims that his side went into the Wednesday NPFL rescheduled game with Remo Stars with intentions of picking a point.
The Flying Antelopes defended deep in their own half as Remo Stars dominated the game from start to finish but were unable to break down the Rangers organizations at the back.
After the game, Rangers was accused of playing for a draw, but Ogunbote in an exclusive interview with www.brila.net insists his side wanted to win the game but bad condition of Gateway International Stadium Sagamu pitch prevented his side from playing the way they want.
“That’s not true, we had the intention to win but the pitch didn’t allow us to play our game, we have to devise a means and we make use of the best situation and go with a draw.”
“We expected Remo Stars pressure because a team at the bottom of the league will come out to do their best, we were caught unawares but I’m happy the players withstood the pressure”
Ogunbote, however, revealed that the Club has turned their attention to the league and the Aiteo Cup, as they want an immediate return to the continent.
“Continental is sweet and that’s what I’ve preached to the players and you always get back to the continent if you want to enjoy it and we must do well in the league and defend the Aiteo Cup and if that is done, we are back to the continent.”
The Wednesday draw moved Rangers to the third position on the log of Group A with 16 points from seven matches.
